Disrespect To African Culture Or Not?? See The Shocking Thing The New Olu Of Warri Did While Seating On Throne

Let’s talk about the coronation of the new Olu of Warriors some days ago.

Prince Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko (Tsola Emiko) on August 21, 2021, emerged as the 21st Olu of Warri, with the title Ogiame Atuwatse III, at a colorful coronation ceremony at Ode Itsekiri, ancestral home of Itsekiri nation in Warri south local government area of Delta State.

After being crowned as the custodian of his people’s culture, tradition and heritage, did y’all know what he did? The new Olu of Warri started singing Christian songs on the ancestral stool (throne).

QUESTION: Why Singing Christian Songs Instead of Ishekiri Song?

Personally, I don’t trust people, political or traditional rulers who put God first in everything they do. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying we shouldn’t put God first; God is supreme. I’m talking about the likes of Pastor Yemi Osibanjo and other political god of men calling themselves men of God. They have nothing to offer in public offices.

My point now is, Prince Utieyinoritsetsola Emiko, the new Olu of Warri messed up big time. Singing a Christian song while seated on the throne, is a red flag and a disgrace to the African culture and tradition.

Before I drop pen, I’d like to tell you guys one beautiful story about the Ishekiri People.

About Ishekiri People

The Itsekiri are considered to be a highly educated and affluent ethnic group with a very high rate of literacy and a rich cultural heritage in Nigeria.

The Itsekiris have one of the oldest histories of western education in West Africa, and are noted for producing one of its earliest university graduates – the Olu of Warri Kingdom, Olu Atuwatse I, Dom Domingo a 17th-century graduate of Coimbra University in Portugal.

Today, many Itsekiris can be found working in the professions particularly medicine, law and the academic professions and in business, trade and industry and were among the pioneers that led the development of the professions in Nigeria during the early-to-mid 20th century.

Wow!

Back to the subject matter.
