Sahara Reporters has confirmed that Ghanaian oil tycoon Kevin Okyere, who was linked in shady business deals with ex Minister of Petroleum Diezani Allison-Madueke, has illegally purchased a brand new 2016 Mercedes-Benz AMG GTS coupe which is valued between $150,000 and $250,000.
The vehicle was shipped from the US through South Africa Airways to Ghana, where it was picked up by Okyere’s personal guard at the Kotoka International Airport.
Findings revealed that the car’s license plate ‘PZM 3849’ is registered to David Owusu, who runs Andimax Marketing Ltd in Georgia, US, which often transported items internationally. Upon enquiries by Sahara Reporters, Owusu denied that he paid for the car and said it was only transferred in his name; it belonged to Mr. Okyere.
Owusu also told the correspondents that it cost $8,000 to switch the names. Owusu revealed that he agreed to do the deal with Okyere because they were childhood friends.
Okyere’s company, Springfield Energy Ltd, had dubious petroleum contracts totalling about $4bn from the then-Minister of Petroluem, Alison-Madueke. An investigation by the UK law agency of the transactions carried out by the company and the properties they bought led to the arrest of Okyere’s wife, Melanie Spencer.
