Rihanna To Headline Calabar Festival

Rihanna-
Carnival attendees will party with Rihanna this December at the Calabar Carnival, the organisers have disclosed.

The ‘diamond in the sky’ crooner, who apparently has a soft spot for carnivals, will headline the Calabar Carnival after-party which takes place, December 27, at the U.J. Esuene stadium, Calabar.
It is the tradition of the organisers to have one ‘international act’ headline the festival every year. Pop stars Akon, and Shaggy have filled this role in previous editions.
The Carnival after-party, which marks the end of the Carnival, a 12km street party, is the peak of the 32-day Calabar festival which runs from November 30, to December 31 annually.
This year, however, the ‘Green Carnival’ – an initiative to draw attention to environmental preservation – will debut at the festival. It will imitate the regular carnival and follow the 12km route.
This edition of the festival is also the first to be organised by the Ayade administration which took office in May. Sources say the governor demands a spectacle and is set to pull some of showbiz’s biggest names to town.
Pop stars, Mafikizolo, Sean Paul, 2Face, PSquare, D’banj, Iyanya, Timidakolo, Flavour, and the Mavin group are among a galaxy of megastars scheduled to perform this year.
Others are Raskimono, KC, Omawumi, Dare Art Alade, Banky W, MC Galaxy, Duncan Mighty, Burna Boy, Timaya, Sheyi Shey, and a host of others.
International gospel artiste Don Moen will make a return to the festival, having ‘ministered’ in 2013, while Sinach will make her debut.
Popular comedians Akpororo, Bovi, and Last Prophet will also make appearances, even as notable TV personalities IK, and Utti Nwachukwu will serve as announcers.
